As the Memorial Day weekend was approaching we thought about going to the cabin in Moab...It sounded appealing to take the 4-wheelers and spend the weekend away in the mountains. After trying to convince my parents to come with us (they really do make it more fun. Plus, not only do they cook, clean and watch after the kids...but my Dad knows all the 'hidden' trails in Moab.) We couldn't convince them to make the trip over from Vegas....so we decided to make alternate plans.
My friend Rachel had told me about this deal that the Zermatt Resort in Midway has. We called and found out about it, made reservations and left Saturday mid-morning. It was nice to only have to drive a little over an hour (and of course make a quick stop at the Park City Outlets on the way through). We were even more glad coming home that we only had an hour drive!
I love Heber. I miss Heber. Every time I go there I become a bit nostalgic and reminisce about the 'good ole days.' I loved growing up in Heber, and wish ( a lot more lately) that my parents still lived there. We were especially wishing they were still there this past weekend (to take the kids so we could enjoy the delicious buffet without Myka throwing everything, arching her back to be taken out of her chair, and squealing her famous high-pitched scream.)
What a beautiful time of year to be staying in Midway. It was green and lush. We took advantage of the beautiful weather and spent almost the entire weekend in the great outdoors. We took the kids on a long bike ride through Midway (where we stumbled upon the most quaint little housing development. We both fell in love. We have talked a lot lately about raising our kids in Heber/Midway......Although, the winters there are so brutal!) I wonder what it would be like to live there being married and having a family? My Heber memories are of growing up, so it would be interesting to live there with kids (and somewhat of an adult). Every time we go to Heber we always drive by my old house, and it's fun to see the changes the new owner has made. She has completely remodeled the outside, and I am waiting for the day when we get to see the changes she has made on the inside! Everything about the Heber Valley seems to have changed so much, yet so much of it is still the same....It's always fun to run into old acquaintances while we're there (Which always happens)!
The pool was freezing cold, but Carsen still wanted to swim forever. The resort had a little putting green where Carsen and Chad were able to brush up on their golfing skills (all the while Myka and I perfected our napping skills!) The carousel was a huge hit with both Myka and Carsen, and I was the biggest fan of the Brunch Buffet where I think I single-handedly ate my weight in crab legs and shrimp! (YUM!) Chad kept driving by the golf course wishing he could be out there golfing....but knowing that wouldn't go over too well with the little wife! (We decided next time we do this we are leaving the kids behind. Then he can golf all he wants.)
Of course, a trip to Heber wouldn't be complete without a stop at the Dairy Keen. (Although, I was disappointed to find out they no longer carry yogurt shakes....I felt that if I was getting yogurt at least I was being a tiny bit smart in my eating.) Oh well, the ice cream tasted delicious and the french fries were even better!
It was great to be back in the Heber Valley and surrounded by such beauty! I love Heber! Who knows....maybe someday we will call it home (again). For now....it can be our little get-away.

We would move there in a SECOND. My parents have a timeshare next door to the Zermatt and we love going there. We've talked about retiring there someday if we can!
You should tell more about the deal that Zermatt has... this does sound like a fun weekend getaway.
Also I thought this post was interesting to read, being on the other side of things and living here as an adult. It is a beautiful place to live, but sadly it is not the same heaven we all agree it was in the 90's.
i swear, in my mind, there is nothing wrong with that place, except for that i don't have family there anymore, either :( you need to let us all in on your zermatt secret!
We love the Zermatt too! It would be so fun if you lived here in Heber, you should really think about it, we love it!
I want to hear more about the deal with Zermatt! We were in Heber on Saturday for Thomas the Train. I LOVE small towns and have always wanted to live in one again. Heber Valley is so beautiful. When I was there over the weekend I thought, "It would be really cool to live here."
So who doesn't love Midway, right? We love it too. We stayed at the Zermatt this year in February. We loved it. We usually stay at the homestead but the Zermatt was really nice and different. Anyway I agree with how nice and quaint of a town it is. Glad you had a good weekend!
Heber must just cast a magic spell on anyone who grew up there and then has to leave! I'm always so glad my parents are still there so we have an excuse to go back often. It was a great place to grow up. Close enough to everything you need, but with the small town feel! Sounds like you guys had a great weekend!
Looks like fun...wasn't the pool awful! I hated that it was freezing cold. So we probably will be seeing your house for sale in a month or so after you pick out the perfect house in Heber :( It sounds like you would move there in a heart beat. It is a beautiful little town (it is actually really growing, not too little anymore).
I am glad you had fun!
Thanks for spelling it right...it looks like I need to change the spelling on my blogpost. :)
I never spell it right either! We love going there (I want to know about the deal!) We go up there a lot in the summer with Dan's family. His uncle just built the cutest house on the golf course of the Homestead...I think I would like to live there but his aunt calls me to find things at Target - that reminds me that until there is a big box nearby, I can't move!
So you came to Heber and you didn't even look me up? HELLO I could have watch your little one! She could have played with mine...Silly Keysha! NEXT TIME CALL ME OR I WILL HUNT YOU DOWN!!! No seriously I would have loved to say hello! 435-671-3710
Glad you had tons of fun!
Oh yeah and I love raising my kids here too! Lived in Oregon once but just had to move back to the beautiful Heber Valley!
I've never been there but I remember you telling me how beautiful it is! I would love to go just to see it!
Sounds like you guys had a fun trip....not to far, and not to close---just perfect! I can't wait to meet Miss Myka and hear her famous high-pitched scream!!!
BTW--I think our husbands are in cahoots...planning some tee-time for tomorrow?!
Oh how I love Heber, It is Heaven on Earth. The problem is that everyone feels that same way and it's growing way too fast. I would move here in a heartbeat, but I really don't want my hubby commuting that far. Your little get away looks so fun. I totally know how it is staying in a hotel room with a baby. I'm all about big closets, or getting a suite type room with a door that shuts for the baby. It's so hard to have everyone sleeping in the same room.
Move here! I am officially begging you. Trust me, it is a fun place with kids. I too was nervous at one point, but now my concerns are gone. Move here!
Can't believe we were both in Heber at the same time and didn't get to see each other! I agree with ALL who have grown up here and moved away that Heber is a one of a kind place. My hubby and I would love to move to this beautiful valley, but not sure if or when that would ever happen. I wish your parents still lived in their house, so many great memories there. Glad you had a great weekend.
We use to have a cabin there. I have great memories of that place. Where did you stay? was it somewhere you would stay again? It sounds like a fun place.
Looks like you had a fabulous weekend in a fabulous place. Next time we'll be around to watch the kiddies.
On another note, I would love to go to the place that has the "train burger" and get some orange icecream. See you in a week!
Okay Keysha... I am going to help with your quest to move here! Landon can totally find you a great deal on a house!! The market is down and so it is a perfect time to buy!! There are actually a few houses in our neighborhood for sell!! How fun would that be? And I think our kids are very close in age too!! Okay it is a done deal!! Did you buy the Pinacle Club @ the Zermatt? That is what we bought and we just renewed ours.. if you go again let me know and we could meet you for dinner or something fun like that!
First off... I was in Heber visiting my parents last month, and I went to Dairy Keen just to get a frozen yogurt shake (Something I HAVE to do EVERY time I go to Heber) and the lady tells me they don't have them anymore! I was so mad I almost yelled at her! I couldn't cave in and get a regular ice cream shake so I had to go with a sorbet cone! totally lame! Anyway...
I miss the good ole days in Heber sometimes too... I always tell Matt how we used to build our little forts and houses in the sage brush by your house. We thought we were so cool didn't we? My mom said the people have totally changed the inside of your house... kinda crazy. I'm just glad that my parents still live there so we can visit often (but not in the winter! I don't love Heber during that time!! =)
